Welcome to our colleague’s introduction to Thomas. He is passionate about contributing positively to the world around him and has found his call at Green Dealflow. Here he can put his marketing and sales skills, obtained through +10 years in the retail business, into play.
“My work at Green Dealflow naturally adds to the green transition. I’ve been selling and marketing consumer brands and products for +10 years in retail. That has been challenging and exciting but not fulfilling. Green Dealflow matches renewable energy developers with quality investors in weeks instead of months or even years. That is speeding up the development of renewable energy projects and thereby pushing the green transition. I contribute to that through Green Dealflow’s marketing and communication, which, to me, is very expedient“, Thomas says.
Building know-how and character in retail
Thomas began his career in retail in Copenhagen in 2010. He quickly worked his way up as a store manager. He focused on the importance of working together, treating customers right, and making quality sales. Matchmaking customers’ needs with the right, and not necessarily the most expensive, products for future recurrent customers was vital.
“I took the time needed with my customers. I enjoyed conversing about their needs, expectations, and positive and negative experiences. Then we would go through different product options. And it was not rare for me to advise customers to go for a less expensive product if that was the right match. Listening focused at eye level and having the knowledge and experience to guide the customer in the right way is key to all great sales. And the benefit of creating a happy and future returning customer is way more valuable than a gun sales approach. I learned that, amongst other things, in retail. That is still deeply incorporated in me today and in how I work with marketing and communication“, Thomas says.
Awakened passion on Canadian exchange semester
Some years later, Thomas relocated from the Danish capital Copenhagen to Denmark’s second-biggest city, Aarhus. He would study communications for 3,5 years at the Danish School of Media & Journalism. That taught him how to interact with people and generate specific interests, actions, and behavior with certain groups of people through communication. An exchange semester to Canada with studies in Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, and International Relations at Concordia University in Montreal, awakened his dream of working on a passionate course and a way to contribute to the green transition.
First, though, he moved back to Copenhagen and continued his work in the retail business. But now, as marketing manager at a Nordic smart-home and lifestyle CE distributor. He managed brand and product marketing campaigns with some of the biggest retailers in the Nordics for almost 6 years before re-awakening his true passion.
Industry change to renewable energies for the win
Now Green Dealflow has welcomed Thomas into the company as the latest addition to the team. Here Thomas will put his passion, experience, and skills in marketing and communications into play.
“I bring a great marketing and communications toolset, but I have yet to apply I within the renewable energy industry. I attended WindEurope in Copenhagen with the team shortly after my start. It was a big learning curve in the industry itself. So many new abbreviations, and of course, Green Dealflow’s business concept unfolded before my eyes. We talked to developers and investors all day long. It’s exciting, and I’m happy to have made this industry change where I can use my skills to do some real good to this world. I can add a new perspective, learn and develop myself and be proud of my everyday work for the green transition in the Green Dealflow team. To me, that’s an overall win“, Thomas says.
Off work, Thomas is spending time with his family, pushing his two children on the playground swings, or enjoying his other passion; sailing his sailboat in the nearby straits with his family and friends.
