This week, Green Dealflow published its monthly solar and wind transaction review for January (access it here). The report is built from Green Dealflow’s transaction database that tracks equity transactions of solar and wind projects around the globe. Altogether the month of January has been active in both solar and wind deals with 30 transactions overall mounting to 6.96GW (gigawatts).
In the solar industry, the report records 16 transactions amounting to approximately 3.728 gigawatts in gross capacity transacted. As compared to a slow performing December with 16 transactions of the 1.05-gigawatt solar portfolio, January was a bit busy regarding MW transacted in solar energy deal flows. Spain was in the leading place regarding total MW transacted with a total of 2 transactions amounting to 1621MW. Spain’s leading position was mainly due to InfraRed Capital Partners signing an agreement with Progressum Energy Developments to acquire a 1.5-GW non-subsidized solar photovoltaic (PV) portfolio in Spain. The USA followed Spain with 4 transactions of 1039MW. The full capacity in comparison to the previous month went down by 254.28%.
As for the wind industry, the report records 14 transactions amounting to approximately 3.239 gigawatts in gross capacity transacted. Following the busy December with 22 transactions mounting to 4.58GW, the trend continued in January for wind energy deal flows. Denmark was in the leading place regarding total MW transacted with one transaction of 949MW. The leading position was primarily due to Vattenfall making the final investment decision for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Danish Baltic Sea waters, which is planned to be in full operation before the end of 2021. The total capacity in comparison to the previous month went down by approximately 29.47%.
